Our mission & vision

We provide opportunities to succeed

CRAB ISLAND TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION TRAINING FOUNDATION (CITVETF) is a registered not for profit and non-political organisation established in 2020, through the initiative of the National Assembly Member (NAM) for Banjul North, Hon. Ousman Sillah, to revive and transform the former Crab Island Junior Secondary Technical School in Banjul into a technical and vocational education training (TVET) Centre.

The CITVET Foundation collaborates and build partnerships with relevant government and non-governmental institutions, organisations, communities and individuals, both at home and abroad, to assist in the development and management of programmes meant to improve skills, foster entrepreneurship and create employment for young people in Banjul, in particular, and the Greater Banjul Area, in general.

GOVERNANCE:

The Crab Island Technical and Vocational Education and Training Centre is managed by the CITVET Foundation through a Board of Trustees which is responsible for its operations and administrative and technical/teaching staff.

OBJECTIVES:

The objectives of the Foundation are;

  1. To establish and operate a Centre that provides technical and vocational education training for the out-of-school youth between the ages of 16 and 35 years in Banjul and the surrounding metropolis.
  2. To offer livelihood skills to unskilled and unemployed out-of-school young people that build their capacity to become employable or self-employed.
  3. To offer short and long term certificate courses in technical and vocational education training to address the skills gap in industry.
  4. To operate a production Centre and outlet.

PURPOSE: The main purpose of the Centre is to serve as a hub that facilitates the imparting and acquisition of technical and vocational education or livelihood skills as well as to advance the development and support for co-operative models of enterprise and self- help to meet the needs of the vulnerable and out-of-school youth to become Resilient, DutifulEnterprising and Employable.

TRAINING: The training will be based on NAQAA approved standards and certification processes and the graduants monitored in terms of their application of the acquired skills and business/job placements and self-employment. The Centre will also be organising refresher training, mentoring and apprenticeship skills.

CENTRE:

The Centre aims to play a central role in the development of unique social enterprises through community work, training and support leveraging on funding from government and other non-state partner organisations/institutions as well as individuals both at home and abroad. It also aims to support the establishment of businesses, clubs and associations that are geared towards the development of the Banjul and Greater Banjul catchment area.

The Centre aims to fulfil this purpose by means of the following objectives:

– To provide training programmes (courses), which build relevant knowledge and skills of the communities and partners it works with;

– To encourage local communities to develop enterprises, clubs, associations which meet economic and social needs and are co-operatively managed; and

– To create community hubs –market place, training centre, performing arts, etc. – which represent community-based and co-operative responses to community needs, thereby strengthening the cohesiveness of communities.
